FOUNDATIONAL MENTORSHIP
The Foundational Mentorship Program supports visual artists working together in an informal, peer-learning framework, with experienced artists mentoring evolving artists. The pair’s direction is led by the mentee’s goals. Mentors are seasoned professionals who provide personalized support, training, advice, encouragement, and feedback on a regular basis. Mentees gain professional development, technical skills, and increased confidence. Artists at any career stage can benefit from working with a mentor and all participants can expect to enjoy revitalized art practices and enhanced community!
PROGRAM DETAILS:
The program runs from September 1 to June 30 each year.
The program is absolutely free.
Mentors receive $4000 for each mentee they support (max 2).
Mentees receive a $700 materials subsidy.
Participants may be eligible for travel subsidy.
Mentorship pairs are required to spend a minimum of 7 hours/month working together.
Mentees are required to dedicate significant additional time to their art practice and/or their goals during the mentorship.
The review panel selects mentees from the applications received each year and matches them with appropriate mentors. Mentees may request a mentor but will not necessarily be matched with the mentor requested.
Attendance at 3 group meetings is mandatory.
Participants must be Saskatchewan residents and should not be students.
Deadline to apply is June 15 each year.
HOW TO APPLY
Application Deadline is June 15, 2024
Apply by emailing the following to workshops.sask@carfac.ca:
MENTEE ARTISTS:
a letter of application (max 2 pages) - What are your goals as an artist? How would your current work benefit from support of the program? How will you devote adequate time to the development of your work while balancing other commitments?
AND
a link to your website
OR
a resume/cv (max 2 pages)
plus 10 jpeg images or a short video (max 5 minutes) with accompanying image list (including title, date, media, dimensions). Include links and/or passwords to any online documentation in your submissions email.
MENTOR ARTISTS:
a letter of application* (max 2 pages) - Why are you interested in mentoring? How will you support a mentee?
AND
a link to your website
OR
a resume/cv (max 2 pages)
plus 10 jpeg images or a short video (max 5 minutes) with accompanying image list (including title, date, media, dimensions). Include links and/or passwords to any online documentation in your submissions email.
Please combine all written components into a single PDF document and email with the subject heading: YOUR NAME - Foundational Mentorship Submission. Please ensure the PDF document also includes your name. Mentors and mentees should send individual PDF documents; please do not combine mentor and mentee applications into a single file.
Include all supporting images either in the PDF with the written components OR in a Google Drive folder titled: YOUR NAME - Foundational Mentorship Submission. If you prefer to send a link to your website rather than a cv and images, please include the link in your letter of application and send the letter as a PDF document. Digital or physical submissions in any other format than described here will not be accepted.
Questions about application requirements and about the details of your mentorship proposal may be directed to workshops.sask@carfac.ca. We strongly encourage applicants to develop their letters of application in consultation with the Program Coordinator.
*Please note that materials submitted by mentors are not adjudicated by the jury; they are used to determine the relevance of a mentorship pairing only, pending mentee selection.
