Artist Statement

My work has its roots in the experience of childhood and nature.  I am fascinated by children’s sense of curiosity and wonder.  How they perceive their world and interact with it.  Nature in all her vibrancy tantalizes me and draws me in to explore in greater detail.  As a child would, I like to play with nature in my wall hangings.

I love color and texture. To achieve these I use primarily wool, silk, and other natural fibers. I occasionally use synthetic fibers for accents. I work on primitive linen backing to produce long lasting quality wall hangings. I use yarn, often home spun and hand-dyed, as well as fabric, both up-cycled and new, and often hand-dyed. All this comes together to create vibrant tactile pieces of art.

Artist Biography

I have been immersed in fiber from the time I was a young child.  My interest was fostered by my grandmother throughout my childhood and into my adult years.

I spent time exploring the world of painting after I graduated from the University of Alberta, and was re-introduced to fiber by Lucille Roxburgh of Calgary, Alberta when she taught me to hook in 1985.  Since then I have experimented with different techniques and fibers.   I love color and I love texture.  I invite the viewer to touch and explore with me.

I have exhibited across Canada and in the USA.  In 2012 I became a juried member of the Saskatchewan Craft Council and started selling my work.
