Bob Pitzel, an accomplished Saskatchewan watercolour artist, depicts images of vanishing rural landscapes, transportation and farm implements by subtly using detail, colour and light and the contrast of geometric versus organic shapes. His painting convey with astonishing and haunting intensity moments in time that often go unnoticed by passersby and with a stark realism that is uniquely his own.
Born in Humboldt, SK in 1948, Bob left the community at age 18 to study art at the Alberta College of Art (ACAD), in Calgary. But rural life held sway, so he returned home to Humboldt shortly after, where he met his lifetime partner Maureen and subsequently opened and ran a successful graphic design business for the next 34 years.
His paintings can be found in collections of businesses, governments and in private ownership in Canada as well as internationally.
