EVENT: Fine Craft Auction
Saskatoon residents can do all of this at the Fine Craft Auction held on Wednesday, October 15 at the Sheraton Cavalier Hotel.
Co-sponsored by the Saskatchewan Craft Council (SCC) and the St. Paul’s Hospital Healing Arts Program, the Fine Craft Auction will feature:
• Original, one-of-a-kind work from many of Saskatchewan’s best known and most accomplished Craft artists, • Work by the artists of the future – who are now students at City Park Collegiate and Oskayak High School. • Work by volunteers and patients at the St. Paul’s Healing Arts Program, and • As a special bonus, a small selection of work produced at the world renowned EMMA Collaboration held in Saskatchewan last summer.
“Work produced at the EMMA Collaboration is a special addition to our Fine Craft Auction,” said SCC member services co-ordinator Chris Jones. “In addition to being able to buy work produced by our internationally recognized and world-class craft artists such as Michael Hosaluk and the Simairs, people will be able to see and buy collaboratively created work from world-renowned artists from the United States, New Zealand and Britain.”
“Much of the work produced at the EMMA Collaboration ends up in the hands of collectors, museums, and galleries outside of Canada,” said Jones. “We’ve held some of it back for this year’s Fine Craft Auction to give Saskatoon art lovers a chance.”
“Profits from the Fine Craft Auction help support the work of the St. Paul’s Healing Arts Program,” said the program co-ordinator and artist in residence, Marlessa Wesolowski. “This program gives expression to the spiritual element of human health. It provides our internal and external community of patients, families, staff and community partners (City Park Collegiate, Oskayak High School) an inviting space to discover their own hope, expression and control during the healing process and translate them into visual pieces of art”.
Tickets to the Fine Craft Auction are $25, and can be purchased at the SCC Gallery (813 Broadway Avenue) or the St. Paul’s Hospital Cashiers Desk, or by calling the SCC at 653.3616 ext. 0.
Viewing begins at 5pm and bidding begins at 7:30, Wednesday, October 15 at the Sheraton Cavalier Hotel. There will be complementary wine and hors d’ouvres through the evening, and live music by the Ruth Eliason Trio during the viewing period.
