Employment Opportunity: Technical Assistant
A highly motivated individual is required to serve as a ‘Technical Assistant’ for the innovative ‘Art on the Air' program. This is an educational partnership between the Saskatchewan Arts Board, Saskatchewan Department of Education, SCN and Regina Catholic Schools that is providing resources and professional development for classroom teachers across Saskatchewan through the use of distance learning and classroom technology. ‘Art on the Air’ is an education program that connects elementary schools with professional artist through a series of live interactive broadcasts. The ‘Tech’ will work with Project Manager/Resource Artist to provide technical support to the broadcast system. They will participate in interactive live televised broadcasts and supervising the technical delivery system, working with high school students to operate a basic video switcher, mini- DV camera’s and a basic audio system. The tech will also act as a resource for the Broadcast studio, an appropriate working space and equipment will be provided. A candidate with an interest or experience in the arts is preferable. The successful candidate will be a Saskatchewan resident (minimum one year); have at least 2 years post-secondary training in New Media, or equivalent (minimum)); be familiar with televised production and have experience in the use of both hardware and software utilized in digital based video production. The candidate should also demonstrate an on-going commitment to the development of his or her professional practice. The successful candidate should have superior communication, organizational and motivation skills; and experience working with high school students. The candidate should be familiar with the operation of miniDV camera’s, basic lighting and audio equipment; they should also have working knowledge of live television production techniques and/or a willingness to learn. Familiarity with software programs such as- iMovie, Garageband, Final Cut, Windows Moviemaker, and a clear understanding of digital file storage, transfer and conversion is desirable. A basic understanding of preproduction skills such as storyboarding or set design is also an asset.

This is a 4.5 month position based on 12 hours per week, with somewhat flexible hours, as an ‘Tech’ for a distance education artist’s residency (Art on the Air) based in Regina at St. Peter Elementary School. It is a contract position at a salary of $4000 for the period of February 1- May 30th, 2008.

This is an educational partnership between the Saskatchewan Arts Board, Saskatchewan Department of Education, SCN and Regina Catholic Schools that is providing resources and professional development for classroom teachers across Saskatchewan through the use of distance learning and classroom technology. ‘Art on the Air’ is an education program that connects elementary schools with professional artist through a series of live interactive broadcasts. The artist will work with Project Manager/Resource Artist Heather Cline to provide professional artistic leadership and expand awareness and knowledge of the arts in the schools. They will participate in interactive live televised broadcasts and design creative content for the on-air presentation and act as a resource for teachers at a distance. An appropriate office space and equipment will be provided. Artists working in any discipline (dance, drama, literary arts, music, visual art, media arts, multidisciplinary) are invited to apply. The successful candidate will be a professional artist who is a Saskatchewan resident (minimum one year); have a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts or equivalent (minimum)); be familiar with Saskatchewan’s arts community and have significant professional experience in his or her art form. The candidate should also demonstrate an on-going commitment to the development of his or her professional practice. The successful candidate should have superior communication, organizational and motivation skills; have experience working with the elementary age level children and in the development of original arts programming for this age group. A level of comfort with the integration of technology based tools into the candidates teaching method is essential, including: video/CPU presentation; basic digital image documentation and manipulation; and a willingness to explore new uses for basic technology.

This is a 2-3 month position with somewhat flexible hours, approximately 10-20 hours per week for a total of 160 hours, as an ‘Artist in Training’ for a distance education artist’s residency (Art on the Air) based in Regina at St. Peter Elementary School. It is a contract position at a salary of $5000 for the period of March 15- June 13th, 2008.
