Position: Communications Assistant (Term Position)
30 hours per week, 13 weeks
September 24, 2007 to December 21, 2007 (dates negotiable)
Salary: Level 3
$17.03 per hour

The MacKenzie Art Gallery is seeking an enthusiastic, creative thinker with strong language skills
(both written and verbal) to increase capacity of our Communications Department.
Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Communications Officer, the Communications
Assistant shall:
• Assist with the development, implementation and administration of
communications services, including marketing and promotional
activities, media relations, print production;
• Draft communications and promotional material related to current and
upcoming MacKenzie Art Gallery exhibitions and programs.
• Be the guest editor for the December/January/February issue of the
quarterly publication, At the MacKenzie. This will include compiling
information and images, planning specific editorial features and
identifying key stories and themes.
• Propose, compile and develop special content for the MacKenzie Art
Gallery website in an effort to assist with the development of the
Gallery’s online presence and Web 2.0 objectives.
• Assist with researching, compiling and drafting the content for special
projects such as award nominations.
• Assist with communications-related research for future MacKenzie
exhibitions and projects.
Qualifications:
• Strong written and verbal communications skills.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects
at one time.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel and Powerpoint).
• Proficient in Adobe Photoshop and InDesign software programs.
• Knowledge and understanding of the communications potential of the
internet with an interest in exploring social networking applications such
as Myspace, Facebook, blogs, podcasts and Youtube.
• Demonstrated research skills.
• Two years’ post-secondary education in related field.
• Minimum of six months’ experience in related field.
