MacKenzie Art Gallery ASSISTANT CURATOR
The MacKenzie Art Gallery, a dynamic community resource with outstanding exhibitions, compelling programs and creative, dedicated colleagues, is seeking an Assistant Curator with experience in Aboriginal curating and programming.
Reporting to the Head Curator, the Assistant Curator will assist with the development of the exhibition, permanent collection and acquisition plans to achieve the mandate, vision and guiding principles of the Gallery. The Assistant Curator will develop and assist in the production of exhibitions, publications and associated programs. As well, the Assistant Curator will develop associated programming aimed at engaging in and understanding visual media, especially creating opportunities to bring artists and audiences together. All of the above will include specific strategies and goals for the Aboriginal components of the MacKenzie Art Gallery's programming.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a university degree; a thorough knowledge of Canadian art history and issues in contemporary art; a minimum of two years' experience in a museum, public art gallery and/or artist run centre as well as demonstrated curatorial experience. The candidate will have a record of assisting with the development of exhibitions, programming and publications. Candidates must possess excellent research, interpersonal, administrative, organizational, and communication skills combined with an ability to work as part of an integrated gallery team.
