Crystal Howie
MFA Graduating Exhibition
Disquiet: Distilled is an installation of paper sculptures and drawings that represent a personal investigation of how social control is enacted on the intimate body. While creating this exhibition, I focused on power and agency, and endeavoured to adapt these ideas to consider the cultural identity of working people such as myself. The work is about my struggle between being a worker and an artist, a miner and a woman, an autonomous human being and the subject of others. The major questions that surfaced in this work have to do with how ideological power (patriarchy and the power of collective labour and class) is manifested in personal relationships and how agency can emerge from self-awareness.
When: April 14th, 2012, 5:30pm-7:30pm
Where: The Artful Dodger Cafe and Music Emporium
1613 11th Ave. Regina. SK
Please note that the installation will only be open for one night only!
